In this presentation, Dana and Phil will offer an overview of the Perennial Philosophy and its experience-based approach to spirituality, focusing on human consciousness and why developing its full potential can have profound benefits for ourselves, our society, and our relationship to the world. They will also preview Saturday’s (8/1) workshop.
About the Presenters
Dana Sawyer
Dana is professor emeritus of philosophy and world religions at the Maine College of Art & Design and author of biographies of both Aldous Huxley (2002) and Huston Smith (2014). His primary expertise is in Hinduism and Buddhism but for more than twenty years, his work has focused on comparative mysticism, theories of the “perennial philosophy,” the nature of consciousness, and the value of psychedelic experience in the study of mysticism. His most recent books are an analysis of The Transcendental Meditation Movement for Cambridge University Press (2023), and The Perennial Philosophy Reloaded for Monkfish (2024).
Philip Goldberg
Philip is an acclaimed author and teacher who explores how Eastern spiritual traditions have shaped Western culture. His books American Veda and Karmic Relief are trusted guides to understanding modern spirituality with depth and clarity.
